(NEXSTAR)— U.S. track and field long jump hopeful, Tara Davis-Woodhall, says she sees her work finally paying off. The 24-year-old from Agoura Hills, California recently won gold in the long jump at the World Championships and is hoping to compete in Paris this summer.

“I’m going in there, my goal is to make that team and gotta do whatever I can to get there,” Davis-Woodhall said.

Davis-Woodhall has been on the world stage since making the U18 World Championships team in 2015. She is known for sporting a signature cowboy hat and boots at competitions.

“It’s almost another personality, it’s almost another person that gets to step out on that stage,” Davis-Woodhall said. “I can do it without the cowboy hat, but it’s fun and it gets the people watching.”

Davis-Woodhall said she has worked “really really hard” and knows the sport can have its ups and downs.

“Everything is temporary,” Davis-Woodhall said. “I’m just taking it day by day, each moment by each moment.”
