PARIS, France (WFLA/AP) — As the Paris Olympics continue to captivate the world, today’s events showcased remarkable achievements and intense competition.
Katie Ledecky, made history tonight, matching the record for the most Olympic medals won by any U.S. female athlete after earning gold in the 1500-meter freestyle.
Torri Huske also had a remarkable performance, earning silver in the 100-meter freestyle. This brings her total to three medals so far, with two silvers and a gold. Tonight’s win was from an outside lane, so pretty impressive stuff there.
In men’s gymnastics, after a stellar team performance by USA on Monday, winning a team medal for the first time since 2008, the all-around final on Wednesday was a different story. Both Michigan teammates Paul Juda and Fred Richard competed in the all-around for Team USA but struggled a bit. A few scratches were made by both athletes, leading them wonder if it was just an off day or perhaps they were a little tired. Juda finished 14th and Richard finished 15th. However, both were in high spirits in the mixed zone.
The last of the men’s U.S. gymnasts we’ll see for Team USA is Stephen Nedoroscik, who will compete in pommel horse.
Another significant story from the Paris Olympics is the condition of the river Seine. The competition for the triathletes was postponed due to contamination in the river after the opening ceremony rain. This unexpected delay caused concern among athletes and organizers. However, both the men’s and women’s triathlons were eventually back in action, allowing the athletes to compete.
Cassandre Beaugrand of France won the women’s triathlon and Alex Yee of Britain took home gold in the men’s competition.
