PARIS (NEXSTAR) – Team USA swimmers Kate Douglass and Regan Smith are celebrating their collection of Olympic medals as swimming events come to an end in Paris.

“We both contributed to USA’s medal tally significantly, and we’re both really proud of ourselves,” Smith said.

Smith was part of the 4×100 women’s medley team that brought home a gold and broke a previous U.S. world record on Sunday night.

“I just had a feeling. I was so ready for us to end things off on such a high note and we did, and it never gets old. That feeling of breaking a world record, it just gets sweeter every single time,” Smith said.

Douglass will also leave Paris with some impressive hardware after earning the U.S. a spot on the top of the podium in the 200-meter breaststroke.

“It’s kind of fun to complain, like, ‘Oh my god all my medals are weighing me down,’” Douglass joked when asked whether her neck was bothering her.

Both Smith and Douglass competed in Tokyo and expressed how fun it was to see the strides they’ve taken since then.

“Kate and I are really really close, and I don’t know. I’m at a loss for words when I really think about it and try to process it,” Smith said.
