(NEXSTAR) – U.S. field hockey star Abby Tamer said every game leading up to Paris has a lesson that can be used to make the team a little bit better. The 20-year-old from Dexter, Michigan scored the game-winning goal to help the U.S. team punch their ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“When we actually made it happen, I can’t put that feeling into words. That was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Tamer said.

Her mom, Keely Tamer, is a former field hockey star and coached her daughter in high school. Tamer said her mom was one of the best coaches she’s ever had.

“She is a really smart person, and she understands the game really well and she has really good relationships with her players,” Tamer said. “I didn’t see that when I was actually being coached by her, which is like one little regret that I have.”

Tamer was named to the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2023 and plays at the University of Michigan but took the 2023-2024 year off from school to chase her Olympic dreams.
