(NEXSTAR) – Sports immortality can be achieved in various ways, but one near-impossible feat stands tall among them: the three-peat. Ryan Crouser can ascend to untouchable heights with a third straight gold medal in shot put in Paris.

“This sport constantly changes and adapts, especially as you get older,” Crouser said. “You have to know when to push the envelope and when to know when it’s not quite there. and just because it’s not there today doesn’t mean it won’t be there tomorrow.”

The two-time reigning Olympic shot put gold medalist comes from a family chock-full of talented throwers. Ryan’s father, two uncles, cousin and grandfather have all competed in the Olympics or NCAA in either the javelin, discus or shot put.

Crouser was recognized as a talented athlete back in 2016 when he was offered a tryout with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. He decided to stick with shot put and is now chasing history.
