(NEXSTAR) – Outside the Villa Albertine, on Fifth Avenue in New York City, is a statue in honor of the very famous Little Prince.

The bronze sculpture was created by Jean-Marc de Pas and is based on the character from the best-selling book “The Little Prince.”  The statue was unveiled in September 2023.

“You can go in the street, and you see the little prince and you can sit beside, and you can have a meeting, a discussion with this little boy,” Jean-Marc de Pas said.

Antoine de Saint- Exupéry wrote “The Little Prince” while living in New York. The French fable takes place in the desert and is based on the author’s own experience as an aviator.

In 1935, he was lost for almost a week in the Arabian Desert. “The Little Prince” has been translated into many languages and was even conceived as a Broadway musical.

It’s a legacy Saint- Exupéry’s great nephew, Olivier D’Agay, is proud of.

“And 80 years after the publishing, we never had so many translations, readers and fans. So, I think he would be so proud to achieve his goal, talking to the world and spreading the good values to everybody,” D’Agay said.

There are many different interpretations of the book that was first published in 1943.

“I think it’s a very important symbol. And it’s also not only about military story, but also about literature. So, culture and democracy are going together,” D’Agay said.
