PARIS, France (NEXSTAR) — It’s time to wrap up another day of coverage at the Olympics in Paris and reporters Marielena Balouris (WAVY-TV) and Alyssa Orange (KNWA-TV) give you a colorful commentary on the bustling festivities at Champions Park.
Marielena Balouris: Hey everybody, Marielena Balouris here with Alyssa Orange, and we want to talk about the party that’s happening behind us.
Alyssa Orange: It’s my birthday. It’s your anniversary. But this celebration is not for us, sadly.
Marielena Balouris: I think they might actually be celebrating us. Look, the Eiffel Tower is too.
Alyssa Orange: I’ll take that. I want to pretend like that’s a thing, but this is Champions Park, and it is a party. Now you can kind of understand why the line around this current TV tower that we’re on is filled every couple of hours.
Marielena Balouris: They let them in, then it fills back up, and they let more people in. But you understand why.
Alyssa Orange: That’s where a lot of the medalists are going to celebrate, to be honored. I’ve seen posts of the divers doing backflips together on the catwalk. It looks like a great time.
Marielena Balouris: They all have food vendors, drink vendors. They’ve got merchandise vendors too.
Alyssa Orange: So a lot for people to get excited about and celebrate, and they watch a lot of these games on the big screen behind us as well. Sometimes you can hear cheering, and we have to turn around. What are they cheering about?
Marielena Balouris: Oh, yeah. Okay, that’s what’s going on behind us.
Alyssa Orange: It’s a good clue. If France is doing something big, a lot of those fans are really feeling it. It was impressive last night. They were watching Mondo Duplantis in the pole vault, and they stayed late to watch him because he jumped a couple of times to break his own world records.
Marielena Balouris: Sometimes you gotta break your own old record.
Alyssa Orange: Alright, we’re going to go and keep watching the party from afar. We might join in, I don’t know, ask us tomorrow.
Marielena Balouris: We’ll check back in. Back to you.
