PARIS, France (NEXSTAR) — The Olympic equestrian events are being held at the historic Palace of Versailles for the 2024 Games. Nexstar Media’s Jala Washington and Aileen Hnatiuk headed to the venue for a recent competition. They describe the experience as breathtaking:

Jala Washington: Hello, everyone. From the beautiful Palace of Versailles. We’re literally in the French Gardens at the Palace of Versailles. We just got to witness one of the equestrian competitions here in the Palace of Versailles, and it was just breathtaking. First of all, it was a trek to get here.

Aileen Hnatiuk: The Château de Versailles is now my favorite venue at the Paris Games. We couldn’t stop more than two minutes getting a picture of the statues and monuments. I mean, we feel like we’re in a different universe… it’s like a dream. You’re literally walking through a dream. The competition is gorgeous. Every single seat in this stadium is packed, filled, and we’re truly grateful that we got witness it. And this is something we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives.

Jala Washington: What’s so interesting is we knew it was out here, but we didn’t realize we were literally going to walk through the beautiful gardens to get here.

Aileen Hnatiuk: A wonderful surprise.

Jala Washington: Amazing surprise. Everybody in here obviously wearing their equestrian competition attire, lots of sweaters. We tried to fit in. We’re still trying to figure out how exactly equestrian works.

Aileen Hnatiuk: I’m a horse girl.

Jala Washington: It’s really cool, though, seeing, you know, the music and the horses prancing to the beat. Just very majestic.

Aileen Hnatiuk: The dressage, the jumping. There’s three different, competitions within equestrian and just the smoothness of the horses and, being able to kind of have that chemistry between the athlete connecting with the horses is truly beautiful and has it’s been really cool to witness.
