PARIS (NEXSTAR) – In an intense BMX freestyle final, Perris Benegas secured a silver medal for the U.S. at the Paris Olympics.

Benegas explained how she kept the noise out and focused on her moves.

After suffering a devastating knee injury just over a year ago, Benegas told reporters that she “just got back on the bike in May [2024].”

Deng Yawen of China won gold, while five-time world champion Hannah Roberts of the United States crashed out of both of her runs and failed to medal.

Deng finished with a score of 92.60 points at the urban sports park built at Place de La Concorde.

Perris Benegas placed fourth at the Tokyo Games but soared to a silver medal with 90.70 points in Wednesday’s finals.

Natalya Diehm of Australia earned 88.80 points on her first of two clean runs, which was good enough for bronze.
