Tom Schaad

36 years in television news has taken Tom Schaad from his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to stints in West Virginia, New York, and Florida where he anchored morning news at WESH-TV for several years while earning several accolades for his reporting, including a shared Columbia Dupont award for the Columbia space shuttle tragedy in 2003.

Tom came to WAVY-TV in 2007 to anchor the 5,6, and 11 p.m. news, and has since added WAVY News 10 at 10 on FOX43 to his anchor duties.  In that time, Tom has earned four regional Emmys for his reporting and several Associated Press and VAB awards.

Tom has found a home in Hampton Roads hosting numerous community events, including the American Heart Association Heart Ball, Heroes at Home Military Spouse of the Year Awards, Leukemia, Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night,  local walks for Survivors of Suicide, among many others.

Tom co-anchored WAVY’s coverage of the Virginia Beach Mass Shooting, for which the station was recognized for its excellence and sensitivity during a tragedy that touched the entire community.

When he’s not at WAVY-TV or keeping up with his extensive public schedule, Tom dabbles in photography and helps his wife Crystal, who is a sommelier and successful owner of Crystal Palate, a boutique wine shop in Norfolk.
