COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesapeake man has been arrested and charged with engaging in ‘illegal gambling’ at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights.

On March 25, officers with the Colonial Heights Police Department were conducting a plain-clothes operation at the mall when security alerted them to ‘illegal gambling activities’ that were taking place in the Food Court area.

Officers responded and eventually arrested 25-year-old Raheem A. Walker, of Chesapeake, Virginia, who was charged with illegal gambling, possession of gambling devices, possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice.

He was ordered to be held on a secured bond and booked at Riverside Regional Jail pending his next court appearance.

In a statement, police said, “The Colonial Heights Police want to remind everyone that these “Shell Games” are not only illegal, but more often than not, the goal is to trick unwitting victims into losing money. The Colonial Heights Police Department encourages anyone that sees one of these operations to contact the police in the jurisdiction that the crime is occurring.”

Colonial Heights Detectives continue to investigate this crime and ask anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Thad Johnson at (804) 524-8701 or you can call the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers at (804)-748-0660.
