VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating two separate crashes that impacted traffic throughout the morning commute Tuesday.
Virginia Beach police said the first accident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Oceana Boulevard and Louisa Avenue and involved one vehicle, a motorcycle. The operator was taken to the hospital with injuries considered not life-threatening. Officials said the area was expected to be closed in both directions until about noon, but dispatch confirmed it reopened right before 6 a.m.
Police said the second accident involving a single vehicle happened around the same time, at Newtown Road and Cleveland Street. That crash shut down Newtown Road from Virginia Beach Boulevard to Stoney Point South in both directions. Police said power lines and a pole were knocked down in the crash. The lanes reopened around 10 a.m.
The two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, police said.
