ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 74-year-old Parksley woman was killed Monday night after she was struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross the highway in Accomack County, police say.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on Route 13 just north of Courthouse Avenue in Accomac near the Shore Stop, according to Virginia State Police.

Police say the preliminary investigation showed Linda Love Ferebee had stopped her Honda Accord in the grassy median between northbound and southbound Route 13 after it became a hazard.

After an employee at the nearby Shore Stop helped to move the car to the store’s parking lot, Ferebee tried to cross northbound 13 wearing all dark clothing, police say. She was then fatally struck by a Dodge Ram, whose owner showed no signs of impairment or speeding, police say.

The northbound lanes of Route 13 were shut down and reopened at 1:59 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
