NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A former U.S. Navy sailor is facing two and a half years in prison for illegally trafficking at least 60 firearms, prosecutors say.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office cited court records saying 26-year-old Julio Fernando Pino used his military discount to buy and resell firearms for profit — without having a federal license to do so.
Pino resold at least 23 of the firearms he bought between November 2015 and January 2017, despite being told to stop by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Prosecutors said several of firearms Pino resold ended up in the hands of felon gang members and juveniles — and were later linked to violent crimes.
