NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Several weeks after a crash that sent two people to the hospital, the Peninsula Health Center building in Newport News remains closed.

A vehicle crashed into the building located at 416 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. around 3 p.m. on March 9.

The Virginia Department of Health confirmed the driver and a health department employee inside the building were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

In a follow-up inquiry from 10 On Your Side, police say the driver appeared to have experienced a medical condition at the time of the crash.

There are no charges pending at this time.

The Peninsula Health Center building will remain closed until further notice and services will be impacted as a result.

The health district provided this information about altered in-house services:

Family Planning & STI Clinical Services – Beginning Tuesday, March 14, FP and STI services will be redirected to the Hampton Health District (HHD) building, located at 3130 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, Va. 23661. On April 3 and 4, the Family Planning, STI, and Immunization Clinical Services for both Hampton Health District and Peninsula Health District will be closed 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. due to training.

COVID-19 and Immunization Clinical Services – The COVID-19 and Immunization
Clinics will be moving to Riverside Brentwood Center, 10518 Jefferson Ave., Newport News,
VA 23601. When facing the building, it is a rectangular building with two entrances. Please enter the building through the left entrance, as Riverside continues operations on the right side of the building. On Monday, April 3 and Tuesday, April 4, the Immunization Clinic for both Hampton Health District and Peninsula Health District will be closed 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

On Thursday, April 6 and 20, there will be no COVID-19 and Immunization Clinics from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Vital Records – Vital Records (VR) has been redirected to either the HHD building, located at
3130 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, Va. 23661, or the Williamsburg James City County (WJCC) building, located at 5300 Palmer Lane, Williamsburg, Va. 23188. Clients can call 757-727-1172 to reach the HHD office or 757-253-4740 to reach the WJCC office.

Environmental Health – Environmental Health has been redirected to either the HHD building,
located at 3130 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, Va. 23669, or the WJCC building, located at 5300
Palmer Lane, Williamsburg, Va. 23188. Clients can call 757-727-2570 to reach the HHD office
or 757-603-4277 to reach the WJCC office.

WIC – Peninsula Health Center WIC client appointments are conducted via phone. For anyone
in need of pick-up, beginning Monday, March 13, clients will be redirected to the York/Denbigh
WIC building, located at 606 Denbigh Boulevard Suite 304, Newport News, Va. 23608.

Car Seat & Pack-n-Play – Classes have been redirected to the York/Denbigh WIC building, located at 606 Denbigh Boulevard Suite 304, Newport News, Va. Clients can call 757-594-7426 to schedule an appointment.

Human Resources – To speak to someone in the HR department, please call (757) 594-7906.

Communicable Disease – Individuals can call 757-594-7427 with questions regarding
Communicable Disease.

Community Health/LTSS Screenings – Individuals can call (757) 594-7426 to schedule long-term services and support/Medicaid pre-admission screening.
