PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives have made an arrest after a 40-year-old man was found shot to death Sunday evening. 

Terrance Washington, 38, was taken into custody around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection to the killing of Reggie G. Dixon. 

Police say they were called to the shooting Sunday in the 1100 block of Queen Street around 5:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found Dixon, of Portsmouth, with gunshot wounds on his upper body. 

Medics responded and pronounced Dixon dead at the scene.

Portsmouth police say Washington’s arrest was a coordinated effort between the department’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and the community.
