Bio: I was born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia and moved to Williamsburg in 2008 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Government at the College of William and Mary. After completing my education, my professional career began at a local community bank, where I learned the importance of community engagement and how vital small businesses are to the success of our local economy. While I enjoyed this profession, I have always been drawn to public service at the local level due to the profound impact it has on the success of our community. When the opportunity to serve my fellow citizens as the Assistant Treasurer for James City County was presented, I jumped at the chance.

I met my wife Lauren, a lifelong resident of James City County shortly after graduating from W&M. Lauren and I both enjoy serving and investing in our local community through our vocations and volunteerism to ensure James City County will continue to be an excellent place to live and work for all residents. We are active in our local church, and I am currently leading a weekly Bible study on Wednesday nights at a local juvenile detention facility.

Why are you running for this office?

I am seeking this office primarily to affect an increase in efficiency and collaboration with all County departments and the citizens they serve. James City County departments consistently win awards for excellence, from our IT Department to our Parks and Recreation services. As Commissioner, my office will not be run like a typical government office because James City County is not a typical place to live, it’s the best place to live in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our citizens deserve a Commissioner who will demonstrate initiative and pursue excellence in the management and execution of the duties of this office. I will also modernize the office to match the realities of the 21st century, specifically by allowing businesses to file and pay monthly taxes online. My opponent was first elected in 1999 – it’s time for a fresh perspective and energetic approach that will keep pace with the rest of the County’s operations as well as the needs of our small business community.

Would you support making the tax payments of businesses who are party of economic incentives public?

Virginia State Code charges local Commissioners of the Revenue with enforcing the law as it is written, including the code sections governing the protection of sensitive business tax information. If elected, my office will continue to enforce the code as written and ensure all business filings are kept confidential.
