VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — After a woman was shot in the parking lot near the Rainbow Cactus in Virginia Beach, the owner is now facing charges, police said.
The incident took place in the 400 block of S Lynnhaven Parkway. 62-year-old Alan Phillips of Norfolk was charged in connection to the incident. Phillips is the owner of the establishment. He has been a part of the community for almost 30 years.
The incident occurred on Nov. 3, just before 2 a.m. A patrolling officer heard a gunshot in the Princess Anne Plaza area. He found a woman with a gunshot wound, and she was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation revealed that an altercation had taken place between the victim and the owner, who was taken into custody.
Before attending his court hearing, Phillips was granted permission from the court to travel to Key West, Florida, for a week on family vacation.
According to court documents, Phillips admitted to shooting the woman after she came at him swinging.
Phillips is facing charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
