NORFOLK, VA (WAVY) — The Norfolk Tides ended the 2023 season lifting a Triple-A Championship Trophy in Las Vegas. Now, we’re back in March, it’s opening day at Harbor Park, and the champs picked up right where they left off.

A Friday night 12-8 win over the Durham Bulls starts Norfolk out at 1-0 on the season, and their biggest names led the charge early.

Baseball’s top prospect, Jackson Holliday, hit a home run to right field to open the Tides season at the plate. He would finish the day 3-5 with 4 RBI. Connor Norby went 4-6, Heston Kjerstad went 2-5 with 2 RBI, and Coby Mayo the same.

Attendance was through the roof at the ballapark, sitting at 10,265, which is the largest they had since 2018.

The Tides will play two more games against the Bulls March 30 at 6:35 p.m. and March 31 at 1:05 p.m.
