SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Four people face charges in connection to an incident in which a driver suffered serious injuries after being shot by Suffolk Police during a traffic stop Thursday night.
Police arrested two people Friday morning in connection to the incident — Arias Nazareth Worrell of Suffolk and Labryan Nasir Mann of Franklin — and another man, Jyshan Deonte Lee of Chesapeake, turned himself in, Suffolk Police said Friday evening.
On Monday, April 8, the driver of the vehicle Rajeik Ahmad Beale was released from the hospital and transferred to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. Beale faces charges that include unlawful possess or aggressive use machine gun, conspiracy to commit a felony, disregard police command to stop, fleeing from a law enforcement officer, driving under suspension.
Worrell has been charged with eluding police, obstruction of justice and possession of a machine gun for an offensive/aggressive purpose, while Mann has faces the same charges, along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lee also faces charges of eluding police, obstruction of justice and possession of a machine gun for offensive/aggressive purpose.
According to police, the traffic stop was being conducted on St. James Avenue near West Washington Street around 9:40 p.m. The vehicle fled toward one of the officers, prompting the officer to fire several shots, injuring the driver.
Police then pursued the vehicle to the 100 block of Brewer Avenue.
The Suffolk Police officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while both criminal and administrative investigations take place.
