NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Nauticus is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Wisconsin by offering free admission to active duty military members and veterans this April.
That includes an 80th birthday party for “Wisky” on Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m.
Nauticus says it’s through the generous support of World of Warships.
“At Wargaming, we’re passionate about preserving naval history and honoring the legacy of these incredible vessels. Supporting naval ship museums is our way of ensuring that the sacrifices and achievements of past generations are never forgotten,” said Artur Plociennik, with World of Warships. “We are honored to be a part of the USS Wisconsin’s 80th anniversary celebration and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Nauticus to educate and inspire future generations about the significance of naval heritage.”
The complimentary military tickets though are limited each day, so Nauticus recommends reserving tickets online ahead of time. Meanwhile dependents of military members/vets will get $3 off general admission to Nauticus.
The nearly 900-foot-long USS Wisconsin is the largest and last battleship built by the U.S. Navy. It served from World War II through Operation Desert Storm. Wisky was decommissioned in 1991 and was later moved to its current location next to Nauticus in 2000.
