POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A woman is recovering after being shot by a Richmond man during what police are calling a possible road rage incident in Powhatan County.

A spokesperson for the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office said that they responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of Ultimate Cycle off Anderson Highway at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9.

The female victim was taken to the hospital. Afterward, deputies determined the car she was a passenger in had been shot at multiple times during a possible road rage incident.

According to authorities, the incident happened while the suspect and the victim were both traveling west on Route 60.

Authorities said that the suspect, 45-year-old Ricky Broadnax, parked his vehicle at the Burger King off Anderson Highway after allegedly shooting at the other car.

“It’s not common in Powhatan,” Skyylor Graves, who works next to the Burger King, said. “This is my first ever experience of shooting being around, anywhere remotely close to here.”

Deputies were able to find and arrest Broadnax about two hours later in Chesterfield County.

Broadnax faces five charges, including malicious shooting into a vehicle, discharge of a firearm while in a vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, maliciously shooting a person, and driving with a suspended license.

There’s no official word yet on how the victim is doing.
