(NEXSTAR) – American distance runner Keira D’Amato is setting her sights on the 10k after her Olympic marathon trial did not go the way she had hoped.
“It was tough to process,” D’Amato said. “When I fall short or I fail, I learn my lesson and move on, and this one stung a little bit more.”
D’Amato says she is ready to pick herself back up. She now hopes to qualify for the 10k on the track in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I have nothing to lose, everything to gain, and I have a chance to be an Olympian. Why would I not pursue that?” D’Amato said.
In 2020, D’Amato broke the American women’s 10-mile record with a time of 51:23.
D’Amato says in a way, not performing as well in the marathon trial took some of the pressure off her.
“I’m gonna go for it. I’m gonna put like my heart, my soul, my running shoes, everything I have into this, and we’ll see what happens.”
