VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist Wednesday night at the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Holland Road in Virginia Beach is fatal, police said.

Kevin Temple walks across the intersection nearly every day. He said this part of town is packed with fast moving traffic. In his mind, it is not ideal for anyone walking or biking.

“Everybody’s in a hurry,” Temple said. “Going to work, picking up kids or whatever they’re doing, but they’re not paying attention to pedestrians and everybody else on the highway.”

He has seen his fair share of wrecks, including a serious motorcycle crash from this past June just down Holland Road. The rider had to go to a nearby hospital.

Virginia Beach Police said the call came in around 10:25 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and found that a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle. The bicyclist, identified as 43-year-old Freddie Morales of Virginia Beach, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and suffered minor injuries. No charges have been filed at this time.
