RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — Democrat Jeff Jackson will serve as North Carolina’s next attorney general after his opponent, Republican Dan Bishop, conceded on Tuesday night.

Background

North Carolina state Rep. Dan Bishop (R-District 8) ran for the Republicans after serving several terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives, where he notably was involved in the drafting of H.B. 2, better known as the controversial “bathroom bill.”

Bishop’s campaign recently filed a lawsuit that names his opponent, fellow Rep. Jeff Jackson (D-District 14,) and a marketing firm. Bishop’s team says the firm made phone calls and asked voters defamatory questions about Bishop’s time as an attorney.

Jackson has served in the North Carolina House since 2023 after previously serving in the North Carolina state Senate. Jackson gained a significant amount of popularity through social media platforms, such as TikTok, which has drawn criticism from opponents. Jackson previously served in the United States Armed Forces.
