HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Construction is moving up the road in Hampton and bringing lane closures with it.
Drivers in Hampton will encounter new traffic patterns at the Interstate 64 west off-ramp to Armistead Avenue and LaSalle Avenue and on North Armistead Avenue at Thomas Street as construction of the Hampton segment of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes continues.
Traffic on the I-64 west off-ramp at Armistead Avenue and LaSalle Avenue will shift left. Drivers will also be required to stop at a new temporary stop sign at the end of the ramp.
At the intersection of North Armistead Avenue and Thomas Street the current through and right-turn lanes on North Armistead Avenue will be temporarily closed. The outermost through lane will function as a combined through and right-turn lane to Thomas Street.
The I-64 west off-ramp to Armistead Avenue/LaSalle Avenue was to be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Nov. 24-26, with a signed detour in place.
To avoid the contruction, VDOT suggest drivers take I-664 as a detour.
Just last week, drivers had new traffic patterns on I-64 east in Hampton from the Rip Rap Road overpass to the Hampton River Bridge.
This HREL Hampton Segment will ultimately become a part of an overall continuous 45-mile high-occupancy toll Express Lanes network on I-64, from west of Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News to the I-264/I-664 Bowers Hill interchange in Chesapeake.
