PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The holidays are a joyful time for many, but they can also be a reminder of who’s missing, especially for children with incarcerated parents. For ten years, the It Takes a Village program has helped make sure those kids and their families feel the community’s support during the Christmas season through their annual toy store and gala.

The executive director of Building Resilience in Communities, Inc., Quiana Futrell, shared more about their mission and how you can help in this Community Connection.

The 10th Annual Toy Store and Gala for Children with Incarcerated Parents is on Dec. 14, but ahead of that, they’re hosting a Stuff the Bus event to gather new toys and monetary donations. It’s on Monday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Creative Learners Academy in Portsmouth. For more information, click here.
