PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man could be facing life in prison after being convicted this week in the murder of a Suffolk woman.

The Office of Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Morales said Jarvis L. Deloatch was found guilty of first-degree murder in the February 2018 shooting death of 22-year-old Keytondra Wilson.

Prosecutors said Deloatch followed Wilson in his vehicle across Portsmouth on Feb. 13.

Wilson called 911, reporting a suspect was trying to shoot her and hit her car.

Deloatch followed her to the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Des Moines Avenue, where he got out of his car and shot her seven times.

Prosecutors said Wilson had prior convictions including malicious wounding and domestic assault & battery of a family member.

Morales issued a statement on Deloatch’s conviction on Wednesday:

No verdict in a murder case such as this can ever make the victim’s family whole. However, today’s verdict displays how committed our attorneys are to eradicating violence from our community and obtaining justice for victims of violent crime.”

Deloatch is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 28, 2019.
