JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. (WAVY) — A security incident prompted a lockdown late Tuesday morning at Fort Eustis, base officials say.

In a Facebook post, officials with Joint Base Langley-Eustis said military police sent out a warning for of a potential active shooter to “err on the side of caution” and protect people across the installation.

An image provided by a WAVY viewer shows the message stated: “Active Shooter. JBLE Installation-Eustis base personnel implement LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN procedures due to active shooter. The last known threat area is Harrison Road near the Picnic Area.”

This alert went out just before 11 a.m.

Officials said it was quickly determined there was no threat to the base. A lockdown that was put in place was lifted, returning Fort Eustis to normal operations. There is no word yet if anyone was taken into custody in connection to the incident.
