CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Hundreds of Family Dollar employees in North Carolina could be relocating to Hampton Roads by next year.

Dollar Tree announced Tuesday that it will close Family Dollar’s headquarters in Matthews, North Carolina, as it continues integrating Family Dollar into its operations.

Dollar Tree, which is headquartered in Chesapeake, bought Family Dollar in 2014 for $8.5 billion.

In a news release, Dollar Tree said it plans to consolidate its store support centers at a newly-completed office tower built in Chesapeake. This consolidation is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2019.

“Our new 12-story, 510,000 square foot office tower represents the anchor of a dynamic campus environment serving the needs of our associates,” said Bob Sasser, Dollar Tree’s Executive Chairman.

Dollar said it has offered relocation to 700 associates at Family Dollar’s headquarters.
