COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) — Members of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund are working to expand and secure the fence that protects the animals after several escaped in March.

The group says at least one horse injured itself and is recovering at a nearby farm. It says the horses have found weak spots in the fence and have escaped all the way to the False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach. On several occasions, deputies have had to wrangle the horses back to North Carolina and secure them.

If you see an injured horse, call the Fund at 252-453-8002 or, if after hours, call Currituck County Dispatch at 252-232-2216.  Always stay away from the animals and never feed them.
