NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police responded to a report of a shooting in the city Friday night.
In a press release, police said officers responded to the 600 block of 25th Street after hearing gunshots at 11:38 pm. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The man was identified at 23-year-old Stephen D. White III. He lived in Newport News.
The Newport News Police Department released surveillance video of three men who fled the area just shortly after the shooting. Police said that these people are considered “subjects of interest.”
The video shows three men wearing hooded sweatshirts walking past a residential parking lot. One of the men is wearing a medical mask on his face in the video.
At 11:47 pm, officers responded to another shooting in the 2000th block of Oak Avenue. There, they found two men with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Paramedics took them to the hospital for treatment.
Police said it’s unclear if the shootings are related.
Police released a statement on May 14 stating that the second subject wanted in connection to the homicide of White has been arrested.
Shkise Fazion Cappe, 21, was arrested May 13 on charges of first-degree murder; unlawful damage to a monument; shooting within 1,000 feet of a school; possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon and reckless handling of a firearm; two counts Conspiracy to a commit a felony; and three counts of malicious shoot/throw into an occupied dwelling.
Police say that Alston Kasine Powers is also wanted in connection with the homicide and is still at large.
Powers is a 19-year old black male, 5’10” and weighing 165 lbs.
