NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man convicted in a 2015 Newport News homicide that left two people dead is facing two life terms in prison.
A jury convicted Tevin Johnson in April of two counts each of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony following a three-day trial. On Monday, Johnson was sentenced to life for each murder charge.
He also got eight years combined for the two firearm charges.
Johnson was charged in March 2015 shooting at an apartment complex in Newport News. Police said 23-year-old Jeremy Taylor had been shot in the torso, and was found lying in the middle of the street. He was taken to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Police said Adrian Holiday, 26, was found sitting in the driver’s seat of a white Mercury SUV and died at the scene.
A US Marshals’ New York/New Jersey task force caught Johnson more than two months later at an apartment in Brooklyn, New York. Johnson was extradited back to Newport News in June 2015.
