GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) -The Gloucester County School board has approved a huge salary increase for teachers for the 2018-2019 school year.

Gloucester County Superintendent Walter R. Clemons tells 10 On Your Side that experience based increases will range from about 5.25 percent to a little more than 13.34 percent.

“This allows the school district to be regionally competitive when attracting and retaining teachers.” Dr. Clemons said. “Gloucester County Public Schools is striving to be the premiere destination as it relates to school divisions on the Middle Peninsula as well as being one of the top destinations in all of Hampton Roads.”

The FY19 School Board Budget has also been approved by the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and Clemons said he is extremely appreciative of the funding provided by the Board of Supervisors which helped make the salary increases a reality.
