PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A suspicious package found Friday at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth was deemed safe, officials say.

A spokesperson with the medical center told WAVY.com the incident was reported just before 11:30 a.m. There was no lockdown, officials said.

Officials said in a Facebook post the front gate to the medical center was closed while the situation was being investigated. The back gate in the Park View neighborhood was open to inbound traffic.

Building three on the medical center’s campus — which is where officials said the package was found — was evacuated.
