HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A urine sample with a “pungent smell” that prompted an evacuation of the Hampton VA Medical Center’s mental health building last week was vinegar.
John Rogers with the Hampton VA said odor was in Building 144, which houses approximately 100-120 mental health patients and staff members.
The building was cleared out for several hours on May 15 while authorities investigated. Two staff members who came into contact with the sample were released from the hospital.
The sample was taken to a lab in Richmond on May 16 for testing. The results, which came back the next day, determined the sample was actually vinegar, Rogers said.
