NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — It’s hard to miss the massive battleship that peers into the eyes of Downtown Norfolk — but now you’ll be able to see it like never before.

Nauticus is opening up new spaces of USS Wisconsin to the public — 10,000 square feet to be exact — as part of their celebrations to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the ship’s commissioning.

Among those new spaces: “Broadway,” the medical area, the Chief’s mess, the laundry area and the “geedunk” a.k.a. the snack bar.

Up until now, the public has could only view the battleship’s top deck, engine room and parts of the command and control center, such as the navigation bridge and Captain’s cabin.

This weekend will feature the main celebrations of the 75th anniversary, including the opening of the new parts of the lower deck, family activities, musical performances, free Krispy Kreme doughnuts (while supplies last) and a meet-and-greet with veterans who served aboard the ship.

The best part is — daily admission is only $7.50 each day for the special weekend. It all starts on Saturday at 10 a.m.
