CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The North Landing Bridge reopened to vehicle traffic Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the bridge early Monday morning for repairs. It was expected to reopen the next day, but officials say the work took longer than expected.

“Emergency electrical repairs on Monday and Tuesday were unsuccessful,” said Keith Lockwood, chief of Norfolk District’s Operations Branch. “The installation of a new electrical line crossing the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal will be required, and the North Landing Bridge spans will only be opened manually for commercial navigation at set times beginning Friday at 10 a.m. Each opening will take approximately two hours.”

Vessels can contact the bridge operator at North Landing Bridge on Marine Channel 13 for more information.

North Landing Bridge is located on the border between the cities of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.
