VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach City Manager Dave Hansen says he used a poor choice of words at last night’s meeting on the controversial Floatopia beach party.
At the community meeting, Hansen responded to a woman who didn’t understand why police would check boats of local residents instead of visitors.
Hansen said residents would have to quote ”paint your face a certain color so we know not to stop you.”
That comment has been posted on social media with some questioning if it had racial undertones.
Hansen told 10 On Your Side his comment had no racial intent and that he was pointing out there is no way to know if boaters are local residents.
Hansen did admit it was a poor choice of words in today’s climate.
