VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The long-awaited opening of Wegmans Food Market in Town Center is finally here!
The 113,000-square-foot grocery store opened its doors at 7 a.m. on Sunday. It’s located at the corner of Virginia Beach and Independence Boulevards.
Approximately 500 people were hired locally to work in the store prior to its opening.
Inside, you’ll find all of Wegmans’s famous features — a Burger Bar restaurant, a Market Cafe that seats over 300, premade “EZ meals, hundreds of imported and domestic cheeses, wine and beer — just to name a few.
You’ll also see food items unique to the Virginia Beach location including orange crushes, nitro tea, a special fried chicken recipe, coffee from local shops and other locally-farmed goods.
Wegmans Virginia Beach Store Manager Mike Coyle says there will also be a big emphasis on fresh seafood at the store, highlighting the abundance of it in the Tidewater area.
“Seafood is an area where our quality really sets us apart,” he says via press release. “Fresh, whole fish are delivered daily and cut to order. When in season, fish will come from local waters off the mid-Atlantic coast and the Chesapeake Bay. We can’t wait to show it all off on opening day.”
This is the 99th store for Wegmans overall and their 12th store in Virginia.
