VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — There was a large crowd on hand for Sunday’s “Pop-Up Church Service” event at the Something in the Water Festival.
The event was organized by Pharrell’s Uncle, Bishop Ezekiel Williams from Faith World ministries in Norfolk.
National and local preachers are talking at the pulpit. One minister from Norfolk who gave a homily said there is something in the water down here and that something is Jesus.
The service started at noon at the stage at 20th Street. It’s a free event for the community. You do not need a festival ticket to attend. Everyone was invited to partake.
The revival style service features local gospel choirs from churches around Hampton Roads as well as dance ministry and performances by John P Kee, Kirk Franklin, Isreal Houghton and Warryn Campbell Band.
Organizers said the event was supposed to end at 8 p.m. but will now likely extend up until possibly 10 p.m.
There are shuttles available, but you do have to sign up for the shuttle and lock in a return time. The shuttle buses will be returning from the Pop-Up Church back to the Miltary Circle Mall and Greenbrier Mall at the old Sears location – at 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
