Amy Avery

Amy Avery joined the WAVY News 10/FOX43 Team in June of 2022 as an Anchor/Reporter and is excited to get to know the Hampton Roads area!

You can catch her each weeknight from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on FOX43.

Prior to making the move to Norfolk, Amy spent the last five years in Oklahoma working for Griffin Communications at stations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Amy was most recently the Weekend Morning News Anchor/Reporter at KOTV in Tulsa.

While at KOTV, Amy’s reporting helped the station earn several Edward R. Murrow awards. Amy covered many big stories in Oklahoma that made national news. This includes coverage of the shooting death of Tulsa Police Officer Sgt. Craig Johnson. He was the first Tulsa police officer killed in the line of duty in 26 years. His killer is now on death row.

She was also on the scene of an oil rig explosion that killed five people in Quinton, OK in 2018, then covered the wrongful death lawsuit to follow that families of the victims filed against the oil & gas company.

Amy also spent several months covering devastating flooding in Eastern Oklahoma in Spring of 2019. She was also on scene in Webbers Falls, OK in Muskogee County as two loose barges made their way down the Arkansas River. Authorities were afraid the barges would break through the dam and cause even more flooding to the town below it. The flooding stretched for miles and hundreds of homes were flooded to their roof lines.

Prior to KOTV, Amy previously worked at KNOP in North Platte, NE as the Weekday Evening News Anchor/Reporter and spent a year in Parkersburg, WV as the Daybreak Producer and overnight reporter.

Amy grew up in Carlisle, PA and she earned her Broadcasting & Photojournalism degree from Marietta College, where she ran cross country and track and field. During college, Amy lived in New York City for a semester where she interned for Live! With Kelly and Michael, The Dr. Oz Show., and The TODAY Show.

Amy met her husband, Jake, in Oklahoma and they got married in June of 2021. They are looking forward to exploring the Norfolk area and visiting the beach with their two dogs, Zeus and Max.
