Jeremy Wheeler, meteorologist for “WAVY News 10 Today” and “WAVY News 10 Midday,” joined the Super Doppler 10 Weather team in August 2004.
Jeremy grew up in a small town in northern Illinois called Ottawa. His education started at the University of Illinois where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in atmospheric science. It was also where he met his wife-to-be.
After graduating, he decided to head south and get a Master’s Degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. While attending school, Jeremy was a lab instructor as well as the weekend meteorologist for WABG-TV in Greensville, MS.
Right after graduating from MSU, Jeremy turned right around and taught at the same University for one year as a meteorology instructor. While teaching he was also a storm chase team leader.
Prior to joining WAVY-TV, Jeremy was a meteorologist at WAAY-TV in Huntsville, AL. Since his arrival in Hampton Roads, he has covered numerous severe weather events including the snowstorm of 2010 and hurricanes Sandy and Irene. He was awarded the American Meteorological Society’s seal of approval in 2004. He was the first meteorologist at WAVY-TV to get their CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) seal. He has also taught weather lab at Virginia Wesleyan College.
Outside of weather, Jeremy likes to spend time with this family. He has a wife and 2 children. He also enjoys crossword puzzles, plucking guitar, and describes himself as a movie-buff. Plus he likes to stay healthy. So he works out 3 to 5 days a week – weather pending.
