Marielena Balouris joined the WAVY team in August 2016 and is thrilled to be part of the Hampton Roads community.
Marielena is part of WAVY’s anchor team — you can catch her weeknights at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. on WAVY News 10 and at 10 p.m. on FOX43.
Prior to anchoring the evening newscasts, Marielena reported daily and anchored the 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. newscasts on FOX43. Before that, she spent a few years anchoring the weekend morning newscasts on WAVY News 10.
While at WAVY News 10, Marielena has covered everything – from hurricanes, to the annual Clear the Shelters campaign, to the mass shooting in Virginia Beach in 2019.
Two of her most notable, challenging, and rewarding assignments were covering the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics for WAVY News 10 and Nexstar Media Inc. Marielena delivered countless live reports to stations across the country and spoke with athletes like Nathan Chen, Katie Ledecky, Grant Holloway, and more.
Marielena was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. In fifth grade, her mom predicted that she would get into television news. She didn’t necessarily agree, but, as she’s learned, Mom is always right.
Marielena traveled to attended Penn State University where she double-majored in broadcast journalism and political science. Her career began at WTAJ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Central Pennsylvania, which covers Altoona, Johnstown, State College and the surrounding areas.
She is always excited to share your stories, so feel free to get in touch!
