HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — This Black History Month, Hampton Roads Transit will honor civil rights icon Rosa Parks during a special Transit Equity Day celebration.
Parks played a pivotal role in sparking the modern civil rights movement when she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery Ala.
Among the speakers will be, William Harrell, President and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit; Vice Mayor Jimmy Gray, Hampton; Gaylene Kanoyton, President, NAACP Hampton Chapter; and Gilbert Bland, President, Urban League of Hampton Roads.
The event takes place at the Hampton Transit Center, 2 West Pembroke Avenue in Hampton on Monday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m.
