HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – While walking into Jones Magnet Middle School in Hampton throughout Black History Month, it’s hard to miss the amazing display painted on the front office window.
School security officer, Mr. Wardrett, painted 12 influential black Americans on that glass.
Every week in February, students were encouraged to guess all 12 people painted on the glass. Then, they could submit their correct answers for a free lunch from Chick-Fil-A.
Meanwhile, the school’s social studies teacher, Mrs. Guthrie, organized a display for Black History month which included some of Mr. Wardrett’s work.
The display also included artifacts from staff members to share the rich culture of African Americans.
