Bundle up this weekend! The chilly air is here and it’s sticking around all weekend.

For Saturday, we’ll see partly sunny to at times mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will rise into the upper 20s to low 30s, with wind chill values about 10 degrees colder than that!

There could be a snow flurry or two today across the region. Impacts will be minimal. On the Eastern Shore, a bay effect snow shower could also occur. This happens when colder air moves over the “warmer” waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Water temps are in the upper 40s right now, so with air temps in the 20s and 30s, that creates an unstable airmass that rises and condenses into clouds. Usually, impacts from this kind of scenario are minor too, but a light dusting can’t be ruled out in a spot or two on the Eastern Shore today.

As we head into Sunday morning, the wind chill values will be even colder. It will feel like the single digits to around 10 degrees for much of the region. In the afternoon it will feel like the 20s. The wind should decrease Sunday afternoon and evening, so the wind chill values won’t be as bad heading into Monday morning.

Next wek, we begin a gradual warming trend with some temperatures in the 60s by late in the week! Typical Hampton Roads weather – with some wild temperature swings. Some showers can also be expected across the area. Noteworthy rainfall, with more than a half an inch could occur Thursday into Friday. Timing is a little uncertain, so stick with us as we look to further analyze and define the heaviest rainfall timing.

Hope you have a great weekend! Stay warm!
