Other than early in the day, Sunday looks to be a wash-out. Rain arrives through the morning hours and lingers into the afternoon. This will not likely be a day of thunderstorms for most of us, but more of a steady light to moderate rain. A few storms are possible in the southern OBX where the low will track close to.
Rainfall amounts are likely to be around one inch into North Carolina, .5″ to .75″ for the South Side cities, then .25″ to .5″ for the Peninsula and point northward from there. High temperatures Sunday are likely to be in the morning (55-60), then dropping into the low 50s as the rain begins. It will be a little warmer in the southern OBX (close to 60°F) as the low will be closer to the southern OBX. Rain comes to an end region wide as we head into Sunday evening and Sunday night.
This upcoming week looks relatively quiet. Highs will be in the 60s Monday and Tuesday, with 70s on Wednesday. There’s a small chance of rain for Wednesday. A better chance of rain pops up for next Saturday (but that’s awfully far away to be totally accurate yet).
With the calm and mainly clear skies, we’ll see some cold temperatures at times in the mornings. At the coast, low 40s are likely Monday morning and especially Tuesday morning. I think Tuesday morning will be the coldest thanks to clear skies, light winds, high pressure nearby and lower humidity levels. We refer to this as good radiational cooling in meteorology.
Hope you have a great weekend!
