What a journey it has been at WAVY-TV 10 & FOX43. Every new day comes with new challenges. When I first started off in the sales department, I was observing and learning from the entire team, but now I have been given tasks to help improve my skills and knowledge before the summer ends.
This past week, I have been taking time out of my days at the station to inform local restaurants about a great opportunity to be featured on the Hampton Roads Show. It benefited me, giving me hands on experience to promote and drive revenue for the station.
About two weeks ago, I created a prospect list of about 85 businesses located all over Hampton Roads. Since then, I have been calling my list to try to set up appointments. During these appointments, WAVY-TV tries to understand the business needs and goals for the future and, if possible, figure out if the station can help those businesses reach their goals. I have set up two appointments for the next coming week and I cannot put into words how excited I am for these meetings. The best piece of advice I gained, from the Account Executives at the station, is to never let a call discourage you and to never give up.
Not only will I still be calling the remaining businesses on my list, I must also prepare for the meetings I have lined up. It is important to understand as much as possible about each company and give valid reasoning as to why WAVY-TV 10 and FOX43 can become a valuable partner for the future.
I have been fortunate enough to be guided by one of the Account Executives who have taught me new tactics and skills to better myself for my future in sales. Not only have I gained experience at the station, but he has also included me in accompanying him to prospective client meetings.
Overall, I appreciate the challenges the sales department has given me and I am excited to continue my internship into the following weeks.
