PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As a normal HRS intern, you don’t get to go out of the studio much. But this past week on March 13, I got my wish. I’ve been shadowing and hanging out with the promotions department, learning their side of the business and recently, they invited me on one of their commercial shoots.
The Commercial Shoot
The shoot was for the Virginia Beach Fire Department. It was a promo shoot for an upcoming commercial and it was to help their recruitment drive which is starting soon. I went with Ezra Petersen, the commercial producer for WAVY-10. We traveled to the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s Training academy site. The shoot only took about four hours or so, however, it was an amazing experience! I learned so much from this shoot alone. It was also really nice to use my own filmmaking skills to help out Ezra on set. Going into this internship, I really didn’t think I was going to be able to use the filmmaking skills that I learned in school. After this commercial shoot and this past week, however, it really has dawned on me that I have learned so much through this internship. The skills that I have picked up in the past and the ones that I have been taught all apply in one form or another.
I am beyond grateful for Ezra letting me go on this commercial shoot for me. I’m also beyond grateful for my supervisor Kenisha Stringfield, Craig Marble and Stephanie Cooke for letting me off the hook for HRS that day so I could have this amazing experience and a different perspective at WAVY-10!
